What is lost if people don’t return to New Orleans?

What is the lost if people don't return to New Orleans?

The lost is very big for not just New Orleans but also the state of Louisiana.  This is a big lost to New Orleans because the people are the heart of the city.  They bring the life to the city.  The city wouldn't be what it with out the people that live there.  They Bring that Cajan spice and also that southern hospitality.  Some history about New Orleans is it was a big slave trading post for both Americans but also the French.  The slave owners would allow slaves to have sunday off.  From this they would go see the french opera or go to the park and play drums like back in Africa.  From this jazz was born.  Jazz is the biggest form of music in New Orleans.  Now if people don't return to New Orleans the flavor, the spice and the heart will be dead because there will be no one there to continue it.

So if the people do not return to New Orleans then it would be a big change not just for the city or the state but also the country.  You might be think how can this effect the whole country? This would be a big change because of the culture.  For instance the food is a big thing.  People all over eat southern food and they might not realize it but a lot of that food come from  recipes from New Orleans. Also one of the biggest celebration in the country, Mardi Gra.   Mardi Gra is not just getting extremely drunk or seeing boobs.

reading from 7/11

In Chute's article she talks about how she likes writing graphic novels.  She believes that memoirs/ novels of the past is replaced by todays entertainment. The first thing that hit me or poped out was she wants to bring writing back.  She wants to do this in the same way comics is doing it. One thing that Chute is not affraid of is showing and writing about violence and death. One thing I learned was that you dont have to be shy or up tight about writing about violence.

Now in the article, The Texture of Retracing In Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis it talks about a her life growing up in Iran. By this she uses pictures and also graphic and discripting words.  One thing Marjane was is very religous.  She wanted to be a prophet. Life was hard for her and Chute really talks about this.

My three questions are,
1. Why do you like writing graphic novels/stories?
2. Has her pasts changed her outlook at life?
3. Why would to go out on a limb and writing with such violence?

Help from Katrina

So in the katrina stories we were show all different kinds of distruction, tragity, and devistation.  Then with my momoir theres tragity and distruction.  But also in both stories there is some form of happness.  How hearing the katrina stories will better me for writing my memoir is by adding more discription or bettter details.  Also by putting more soul into my story too. I think hearing them tell use their stories and showing use how much it changed their lives I believe we should take that same path and really describe our memoirs and do what they did have our stories come to life.  This wil help me, like I said bring more depth and discription to my memoir and help pull the reader in deeper.

Now some stratigies that can help is by putting in examples that really liven it up.  Also by making big powerful descriptions that can easily be thought of and make mental pictures.  Showing how this disastor has change my life, like how the people of katrina did, is another thing I am going to add to better help my memoir.

Here is how watching the movies on the katrina victums is going to help me fix and edit my memoir and I also hope it will help others too.

7/2 Homework

In the memoirs article, the writer say "when writing your memoirs, reach down deep and pull out everything in your life, both the good and bad."  This is a very good thing to keep in mind when people are writing their memoirs.  Some things people can write about is marriage or divorce, births or deaths like big events in the persons life.  One very important thing the writer say is "there will never be an agreement between art and craft." What he is saying here is, people will always run into problems with coming up with good ideas and then putting those ideas onto paper in a good/ proper way. One good point the writer says is, don't be afraid to involve your self a lot in your memoirs.
For the FSU readings we were suppose to read i was unable to open the webpage.

1. How can people really express themselves in memoirs?
2. People writing memoirs, do they do it for themselves or for the readers?
3.

6/30 Homework

In both the article and NPR, they point out that one must need to know about oneself and what that means to them. Just because people think people are mentally strong does not mean they are truly that strong, as in the NPR. The two women talk about what they miss back home in New Orleans, such as martigra. In the end, the women are very greatfull to be alive and together. Now, in the article, the author talks discusses about finding out her true self. The author turned to some self help books in aiding self her in finding her true self.  An intersetin fact she learned is that you can improve her feelings by describing them to others. She also learned writing can be a very therapeutic.  Some teachers want students to write something that comes from deep inside of them; not some boring essay on campus security.  The most interesting thing in the article is when the author say, "to reach deep into our minds to gather words that helps describe ourselves" and the world around us.

1. Can changing your mind really change your attitude?
2. How long did they stay in Houston?
3. Has your outlook changed after Katrina?
